Jack sat on the beach, his shirt blowing in the warm ocean breeze. No one really needed his help or attention at the moment so he thought he'd make the most of it. He stared out onto the horizon, his knee tucked up to his body and his stubbly chin resting on it. He closed his eyes and just imagined being back at home, he's probably be at work right now, in the middle of surgery or just finishing or beginning. He re opened his eyes and looked back out over the sea. There hadn't been a boat or ship in sight since they'd crash landed here. That was quite weird considering boats and ships usually sailed all over the oceans. He sighed heavily, taking a nice deep breath. He ran a tired hand through his little hair and sighed again thinking...

"Well, if it ain't the good doctor..." Sawyer, his usual puffed-up self, swaggered over in Jack's direction. He was damn bored, it was too damn hot.. and Jack was just a perfect target. The pair made no secret of their feelings towards each other...
"You sill waitin' for a ship? And there ah was, had you pegged for intelligent... You disappoint me." he grinned, shading his eyes with a palm resting beneath his shaggy blonde hair which rippled in the wind.

Jack kept his gaze over the horizon, even when he heard the voice. It was unmistakeably Sawyer's Southern drawl so he didn't need to look.
"Im not looking for a ship. Is it not ok for me to have a bit of time to myself?"
He said turning around.
"And theres nothing unintelligent about having hope Sawyer. Everyone on the island has it. Even you."
He said looking back to the clear waters. His cut on his face was almost healed now. It had been a few weeks since the crash and everyone was sure they were gonan be on the island longer than first expected. But everyone still had hope, thats why people camped out on the beach and sat and watched the sun go down on the horizon, and lit a signal fire. He looked to see if sawyer was still stood over him and then looked at the rustling leaves in the forest.

Kate
Kate stumbled over the expanse of golden sand, casting a dirty look towards Sawyer before standing beside Jack and watching the waves foam onto the beach. She had searched for a boat or ship ever since she had been stranded on this island, and no harm done. Better than being Mr. Haystack, drawling Southerner. Kate had always been a city woman. That is, until the bust. She shuddered. Stop it! She reprimanded herself.
Saywer... no wonder you dont have hope. You cannot be classified as intelligent.
Kate remarked scathingly, with her usual edge. But the moment was gone, the anger she had first felt being abandoned on this godforsaken island. But now she just felt empty... empty, and alone. She felt alone, though she was constantly around people. She guessed she surrounded herself with others so she couldn't think of her past, or her future, as she had times before. Many tears she had cried so far, without the added pressure of being stranded. Stranded... even the word sounded ugly. Lost... but that is what she had been all along, a lost figure with nothing to keep her going except the fear of being caught.

Jack looked towards Kate as she came across the sand and stood next to where he was sat. He turned back to Sawyer and smiled when she made the comment about him not being intelligent.
"See, even the lady agrees."
He said looking to Sawyer.
"Now why don't you go salvage some more junk or go make yourself useful in your makeshift tent.."
He looked back lazily to the small waves lapping at the beach. The waves were coming in and were almost touching his shoes. He pulled his other leg up to him and stood up, using his hand for support.
"Hey, Kate wanna go look for some food?"
He asked wiping the sand from his butt and turning to face her with a friendly smile.

Sawyer grinned at Kate. "Hell, and there ah was thinking y' didn't like me, freckles.."
He turned back as Jack got up. "Goin' so soon, doc? And with the lady? Ah thought you needed some time alone..." Yeah, that ought to do it. Make him squirm a little, since heroes weren't allowed to have feelings like he and every other hot blooded male on the island would have about the charming yet feisty Kate.

"Maybe I enjoy Kate's company, unlike yours."
He looked at Sawyer with a deep scowl on his face. He was getting what he wanted, but Jack just wasn't in the mood to fight back. He was hungry now and wanted to get something to eat before someone else needed his help.
"Just lay off her ok?"
He said, meaning Kate turning to Sawyer and moving closer. His stomach rumbled and he looked down at it. He looked to Kate quickly.
"Coming?"

Hell yeah, Sawyer was getting just what he wanted. He usually did. And Jack was making himself such an obvious, easy and appealing target. "Lay off her? Ain't no way ah could lay on her... Not without you getting in the way." He winked at Kate, still grinning. "Besides, ah think freckles can speak f'herself."
((ooc: Naughty Sawyer! Ah well... ;D See what you make of that one, guys!))

Jack sighed and moved closer to Sawyer again.
"Her names Kate."
He said in a short, threatening tone. He didn't want Sawyer to get the better of him so thought it best maybe if he walked away now. Then he wouldn't end up hitting him or losing his patience. He needed it around here. He turned to Kate,
"Catch me up if you want."
He glanced at Sawyer before walking away towards the trees.

Sawyer watched Jack walk away. Part of him was glad.. another victory, and this one without him getting punched. All in all one big fat success.
"Real all-American hero, ain't he?" he smirked at Kate "What the hell is it you see in him anyways?"

Kate
Kate looked from Jack to Sawyer, pissed off with the whole escapade. She smiled to Jack slightly, before resuming her comebacks.
Get on me? For gods sake, you couldn't get near me if you tried. Anyway, you ask what I see in him? A lot more than I see in you, anyways.
She retorted, casting a scornful look towards Sawyer, and starting to walk away. But she couldn't stand for Jack's loss, being as independent as she was. She needed to take her anger out on something. She was frustrated with the whole incident, from the island to the people. Especially one person in particular. It was hopeless, turning away. Sawyer just stayed a prick, a bloody idiot with no real talents. So Kate turned back, walking back up to Sawyer. She was shorter than he, him being a lanky Southerner. But she spoke again.
You just get everything you want, don't you?

"Pretty much, freckles..." Sawyer grinned.
Damn, he hadn't expected that. Getting to both parts of the dream team in one fell swoop.. somebody up there must like him. Well, he wasn't going to waste this opportunity by giving her what she wanted - a full on, guns blazing argument - sometimes it was better to walk away... And so he headed off, back to his tent, still grinning
((You really don't like Sawyer much, huh? Oh well.. have a Jack and Kate moment.))

Jack hadn't gone far, he thought he'd wait and watch how Kate reacted. He knew he shouldn't have walked away but it was better he did than for Sawyer to get hurt. Wasn't it? He walked back out the trees and over to Kate,
"Just ignore him. He doesn't know what he's on about."
He looked at Kate, seeing the anger, glinting in her eyes.
"Sorry, I just didn't want to get myself into a fight right now. Im not in the mood." He looked down at Kate and then out onto the ocean.

Kate
Kate sighed, looking after the retreating Sawyer with narrowed eyes. Let him go. He was probably too scared to get in a fight with her anyway. But she knew that wasn't true. He underestimated her. She knew that. Sometimes she felt like telling people her whole secret, just to show them how she could be. But she knew that was stupid. So she tried to let it go, for the millionth time in her life. She smiled to Jack.
Dont worry about it. Though I was so yearning to hit him, there are more important things on this island, and we dont need to go making alliances.

"I like the way you think."
He smiled to her.
"So, how about breakfast? A passionfruit, or maybe a guava. A banana or if we're really lucky, a star fruit."
He grinned, he had a special relationship with Kate. One that he had with no one else on the island. It helped him sometimes, to get through some things when he felt like giving up. He side glanced to Kate. Making sure not to make eye contact.
