Charlie smiled back. "Hey, I can understand that." Because wasn't that what he had been doing, volunteering for this fishing trip and all? Sitting around only brought memories.. ones which hung like a noose round his neck. And he so wanted to be useful, to prove to people he'd probably never met before that he wasn't totally useless. Well, he'd failed at that one..
Momentary flash of inspiration, though... if they couldn't move the suitcase, that didn't mean it was a lost cause. He scratched his face, thinking, noting the itchyness of new growth and constructing a to-do list in his head. Get food.. get a fix... find guitar. But first help Claire "Why don't we open it, see if there's anything?"

"Why don't we open it, see if there's anything?" Claire thought about this. She'd open it, but something in her was doubting. What if the person whose suitcase this was was looking for it right now? It would be violating their privacy, right? And if it belonged to someone who was now,..dead..she just couldn't stand the idea of having something that came off of someone, not living.
"Isn't that a little.." She eyed the suitcase. It seemed fine,.. but still. It was just, weird. Though there might be something really useful in there. And if she would tell people she'd found it, she would have done something that actually hélped.. "Never mind." She said, smiling at Charlie. "You first.." She said, taking a small step back..

It was a little... wierd, now he thought about it. Rooting through the personal belongings of one of the shattered shop dummies he'd stumbled amongst earlier. It sort of freaked him out. And if it belonged to someone living, then he'd probably have a knuckle sandwich to contend with. Bloody marvellous...
But what if there was something useful in there? Something that might help him... or, more importantly, Claire, who actually deserved the chance to survive? He smiled at her "Okay..."
Charlie knelt by the suitcase, inspecting the zip, still mulling over the idea of opening it... not opening it... Claire seemed as eked as he was. He turned back to her. "If you're not okay with this, then we'll leave it..."

"If you're not okay with this, then we'll leave it..."
Was she okay with this? She didn't know. It was just a little freaky, this stuff belonged to someone who is now, just, not hére anymore. It felt like you were being dishonest to the dead or something. On the other hand, this may contain something useful. Like, uhm, things Jack could use. Or maybe, food...
But if this suitcase belonged to someone who was looking for it right now,.. Claire wouldn't have liked it if someone was rummaging trough her bags. Wether she was dead or alive, she still wouldn't have liked it..
"Uhmm.. are you?"

"Um..." He shrugged, smiling in a 'I have no idea' sort of way, and shivered. "It's a bit, well, freaky, don't you think?"
He smiled at her, and ran a hand through his hair. He really didn't know what to say...
((worst post in history, sigh. Oh well))

((Well, okay, you win.. )) "Maybe we should.." She put the stoke of hair behind her ear again, shifting her glare from Charlie, to the suitcase, and back to Charlie, as she spoke. "ask someone else.." she muttered after. She was dying ot know what was inside, but it was just a little freaky to open it. It was just.. gah. No reason. It just didn't feel right.. But what if it had something cool inside. Something useful, something everyone has been desperatly longing for.. she'd be 'hero of the day' for once.. "I'm just gonna check." She said, as her curiousity took over. She sat down on her knees in front of the suitcase, tugging the zipper. After a while of sighing and tugging, the suitcase opened. She looked inside, and gave a deep sigh...

Charlie dropped back as Claire opened the suitcase, a weight lifted from his shoulders... But still he couldn't help biting his knuckles.. something about this was more than a little dubious, on lots of levels. And he still felt useless, having to get her to do this for him....
Hang on a sec.. since when were there 2 suitcases? Or 2 Claires, for that matter? He turned his back as things started swimming, feeling seasick despite being on firm land... Crossing his arms over his chest and forcing himself to breathe, slowly things began to look normal again. He turned back.. Claire had opened the case. He shifted round her, trying to get a look in. "What?"

"What?" Claire sighed, and backed off a little, giving Charlie a chance to take a look. There wa snothing in here. Just, clothes. And other non-survivalish things. Nothing of any use. She stood up again, glancing around the beach, checking if someone might have lost a suitcase. When she turned around again, she noticed Charlie was acting a little.. weird..
"Hey..." Claire said, stepping towards him. "Are you.. okay?" What was wrong with him? He looked a little, confused...

"I'm fine.." Oh God, did he really look that bad? He turned away, facing her enough for her to see that he was smiling (so as not to freak her out), but hiding a face he was now worried betrayed all his inner demons. "At least, as fine as you can be, having survived an airplane crash..." He laughed, trying to break the tension.
He was a mess. He knew that. He'd let his life go utterly to hell...

Claire cautiously stood up, taking a step back. Charlie didn't exactly look.. fine.. Looking at him from a few steps away, she saw he was trying to hide the fact he felt, whatever he felt. He looked dizzy...
"Maybe you should.." Claire said, thinking of what to say. She didn't want to seem overprotected or something. It's just that, he looked like he would collapse if she wouldn't get him to lay down or something. "Lay down for a second.."

"No, I'm fine" Though he didn't sound it, his voice going sort of high, and strangled, desperate to convince her. He cleared his throat, smiled at her, and started again, this time more normal. "Really.. I'm fine. And you need to stop worrying about me.. someone should be taking care of you, rather than you worrying about me."
Charlie smiled again, blushing slightly, having decided by now that he'd be there for Claire... she was, well, nice... and needed someone. Granted, there wasn't much Charlie 'You'll never take care of anyone' Pace could do, but whatever he could he would.

Claire didn't move. She just stood there, watching Charlie, as he seemd to be clearing up a little. What was happening to him? He must be really hungry to get all dozzi and confused and stuff. But, Claire wouldn't be Claire if she'd go on asking about it. So she just shook off thos thoughts, walked towards the suitcase again, and kneeled down in front of it.
"Let's see.." She muttered, taking some clothes out of the suitcase, folding them up again nicely and laying them down on the sand gently. "If there's anything cool in here.."

Charlie mentally breathed a sigh of relief... Crisis averted, so long Bloody Spanish Inquisition.. he headed back towards the suitcase and knelt next to her, his back to the suitcase, so it was almost as if they were face to face. "So... Claire, you're Australian?"
It was a stupid way to start a conversation, granted, but whatever.

Claire looked up from the suitcase and kept her eyes on Charlie as she spoke. "Yep.." She said cheerily, smiling again. She didn't really know why, she felt pretty good. She found someone to talk to, something to do, and those were exactly the two things she wanted.
"And with you.." She said, folding up another sweater, and looking up again after. "I'm guessiong England?" She said, laughing a little.

"How did you guess?" Charlie hugged his knees to his chest, feeling a hell of a lot better. He'd been dying for a proper conversation... but people had been, well, avoiding him, like they knew how much he'd messed up. He laughed and nodded. "Wonderful, beautiful, sunny Manchester..."
