Locke had done it. He had caught a fish. Admitedly not a very large fish but it was a small victory for a middle manager at a box company.
"Charlie look......" he shouted.
He could see the small man who was sat in the middle of the beach. Next to him was a woman he did not recognise. She was blonde and very pretty. From the distance there was nothing out of the ordinary about her.
He walked up from the edge of the beach to where the two people sat. When he was closer to them something about the young woman stood out- her pregnancy bump.
Poor thing he thought
"I've caught a fish Charlie" he said cheerily. He then extended his hand to the young woman. "My name's Locke, John Locke."

Claire looked at the man who had just come walking towards them with a fish in his hand. She knew him, his name was Locke. He held out his hand, so Claire shook it. "Claire". She said cheerily. "Hi."
Locke, or John, as he just mentioned his first name, seemed pretty proud to have caught a fish. Not that it wasn't something to be proud of, Claire couldn't have done it in a million years. But it almost looked cute, and that, Claire thought, was not a way of describing a man like John Locke. She smiled at Locke, and then looked over at Charlie.

"Nice to meet you Claire. When's you're baby due?"
He looked at her bump, it couldn't be long now and he knew that a newborn baby would not survive this jungle. He hoped that it was a while, so they could get rescued first.

Claire looked at Locke, and then at her so-called 'issue'. She knew exactly what Locke was thinking, he felt sorry for her. She hated that, like she was a 'special case' or something.. She would be perfectly fine on this island, and so would her baby.
"I don't know, exactly.." She gave Locke a weak smile. "Though it can't be long.." She kinda muttered, looking down at her 'baby bump'. For some reason, this conversation was getting awkward. She looked over at Charlie,..
((oh my gosh, pure crap is what you got here...))

Charlie could sense that Claire was feeling a bit.. well, awkward. And since he'd proved himself totally useless as a knight in shining armour earlier, he thought it might be politic to sweep her onto his metaphorical charger and away from this awkward conversation...
"Um, Locke.." He grinned. "You said you caught a fish, right? That's great..." He shot a glance at Claire, half-shrugged and winked to let her know he was trying his best.

Locke could tell that his question was ill recieved. This was a woman who was unready to nuture a child and a woman who was still a mere child herself. But of course, Locke was not the kind of person who would say that sort of thing.
Locke turned slightly and smiled at Charlie. He held up his prize, "Yes Charlie, indeed, I caught a fish although I am sure that an Englishman would have caught it quicker." He smiled broadly and looked back towards Claire.
"Are you hungry Claire?" he asked in a friendly tone.

"Are you hungry Claire?" Claire's glare switched from Charlie, to Locke, to the fish he was holding. It actually looked quite... disgusting.. but hey, food was scarce. "Yea, kinda.." She replied with a weak smile, looking at Locke.
Her eyes flickered over to the horizon, she thought she saw something. But it was probably nothing, and she turned back to Charlie. She smiled a little. "Are you?" She asked him, pushing a blonde stroke behind her ear.

I'm sure that an Englishman would have caught it quicker...
Charlie laughed, but checked himself. Because he had no idea how to fish, and Locke was probably their best bet when it came to food, and if he actually thought Charlie was a better fisher than him then it wouldn't be long before they starved..
Are you? He turned back to Claire. "Yeah, starving..." Which he was.. Christ, when was the last time he'd eaten? He couldn't remember... The last few days before the crash had sort of been a blur.. a mix of getting laid, so he could get high... getting high... feeling sick because he got high... and getting high to stop feeling sick. The fish was hardly what he'd have chosen to eat, being all slimy and stuff, but it was all they had.

Locke smailed again. "I guess I better go and find something to cook this fish on. We could really do with a few fires around here to act as signals and to keep us survivers warm. I'll call you when it's ready and don't worry Claire, it'll look better when it's cooked." And with that, Locke turned and walked towards the beach.
(( sorry for the bad post, I feel ill))

Charlie waited for Locke to leave before leaning into Claire conspiritorially. "Okay, I'm scared..." He laughed. "I don't know about you, but he sort of freaks me out."
His stomach growled, sending his head spinning.. He blinked a few times to cover himself, and forced himself to ignore the dizziness that ensued. He needed another hit... But now wasn't really convenient... if he concentrated he could put it off until everyone was asleep. "Sorry.." he laughed again "Guess I'm hungrier than I thought.."

"Okay, I'm scared...". Claire tilted her head to the side a little, letting the warm breeze run trough her hair. "I don't know about you, but he sort of freaks me out." Claire smiled at his comment, and sighed in some sort of relief. Looking Charlie in the eye, she said: "Luckily I'm not the only one!"
She looked at her bare feet again, as another moment of not knowing what to say passed the two again. She looked over when she heard Charlie's stomach growling. "Sorry..guess I'm hungrier than I thought.." Kate laughed, glancing around the beach. People were stumbling around a little. Looking for food, or dragging suitcases back and forth.
Suddenly, Claire remembered the suitcase she'd been trying to bring to the upper part of the beach. She was still holding the handle, and she looked over to where the suitcase was now. "Would you wanna.." She turned back to Charlie. "help me with the suitcase, then?"

"Um.. yeah" He smiled, glancing over at his old adversary where it lay, handless on the sand. "Maybe we should give that another go.." How well that would go, given that he was now aching for some skag, was a bit of an issue... but he thought he liked this Claire, and was going to help her move that suitcase...
Charlie got to his feet, swaying slightly Okay, focus. Trust that the floor is going to stay there... He thought that his knees would buckle as another wave of nausea hit.. but (Thank God) that subsided, hopefully without Claire noticing. He turned, running his taped fingers over a face that felt like it was burning away, looked up at her and smiled again, offering her a hand to get up. "Shall we?"

Claire took his hand and stood up with a lot of effort. She noticed Charlie was acting a little.. weird. But she ignored that, thinking he wa sprobably really hungry or something. Once she got herself up all the way, she stepped towards the suitcase. She looked at it, weren't there any handles left? Of any kind? She threw the broken-off handle away and tried to grab it, which wasn't really working for her. Once she finally got her arms underneath the bloody thing, she dropped it under it's weight.
She sighed, and took a step back. Looking over at Charlie, and smiling slightly. "I don't think this'll work..", She said, in a stating-the-obvious tone, putting another stroke of hair behind her ear. How were they ever gonna get this suitcase all the way up the beach?

"No.." He laughed, trying to break the tension. "Still, at least you got your suitcase.. Mine's probably been stolen by that bloody redneck jerk" It wasn't the suitcase he was missing.. he wanted his guitar back. But that probably hadn't survived the crash, sigh.
He glanced over at her and grinned. "You haven't had the pleasure of meeting him yet..." Charlie glanced back down at the suitcase. "And.. I really have no idea how we're going to get this to move."

She sighed, looking at Charlie, and smiling. "This isn't even my suitcase.." God, this sounded stupid. She'd spend all day trying to get it to move, and it wasn't even hers. Not that she'd found hers already. And she would go look for it, but it didn't seem a good idea to her to go wandering around, seen her 'condition'.. She took this particular suitcase for no reason. She just really, really wanted to show the other she could be of any use. They hated the way they looked at her. Like she was weird, scary almost, and most importantly; useless.
"I just wanted to do something.." She said, now smiling sweetly at Charlie..
