Name: Nate Driscoll
Age: 32
Home before the crash: L.A
Occupation before the crash: Screenwriter, sometime director… and reluctant bodyguard (more on that in history)
Physical Description:
- Eye Color – ice blue
- Hair Color and Style – Dark, fairly long and somehow always looking impeccably styled despite minimal effort
- Signature – horror.about.com/library/weekly/Jacket/images/AdrienBrody.jpg[/img]
Brief Description: Some would say rugged, others haggard. He is slightly built, fairly tall (around 5’11) and usually projects an aura of melancholy. He holds himself as if apologising for a physical presence he never had in the first place. His tastes as regards clothing tend towards the sophisticated, if slightly old fashioned.
Personality: Nate was in many ways born in the wrong era, better suited to an ancient age of nobility and honour. He is intensely loyal and committed to his word whatever it may cost him. He has a strong sense of responsibility, both to other people in the sense that he looks out for those he’s close to and would rarely hesitate to help another human, and to himself in that he is acutely aware of the consequences of his actions and can’t let anyone else take the fall for them. In his mind it’s Helena and Milla first, then himself so long as his existence benefits them, then everyone else.
His academic and literary passions have never really left him. He has a keen, inventive and logical mind and is a mine of random information gleaned from the meticulous research he founds each work on. The writer in him has a sharp memory, an eye for detail and a fresh perspective.
There is another side to Nate. Beneath the charm, courtesy and intelligence the melancholic outsider still lurks.
History: Born in Edinburgh (Scotland), spent an unremarkable childhood there. Reasonable academic success… Teenage years passed in a blur, but label as ‘Tortured Loner’ proved more enduring. Drifter, dreamer, couldn’t decide what to do with his life and spent several years in America (having gone there to chase the as yet unidentified dream) as a Nomad of the Coffee Houses, writing reams of poetry and a few scripts. Lightbulb – Screenwriting was the life for him! Aged 21 started studying at the Rita and Burton Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing, Tisch School of the Arts. Graduated aged 24. Minor success in TV drama and on the independent circuit. Big break came in 2000, directing a film produced by Kamilliah Tate and starring John Klansa…
There must have been something in the water on that film, made everyone get along. In any case Nate and John clicked, became great friends… The film won numerous accolades and for a while everything he touched turned to gold. On the set of his next work, a Castaway-style 2-handed called Forsaken, he fell in love with its star, a member of the rising Hollywood Brat-pack called Faye Rosslyn. As a relative newcomer she was desperate to climb the fame ladder, convinced herself that this career move sprung from genuine love… They married in May 2002, with John as Best Man (accompanied by a now heavily pregnant Milla, whose daughter Helena was born August that year).
The Golden Days couldn’t last forever. Nate had always used writing as an escape from reality, but with things going so well he didn’t need this pressure valve. Work started to dry up. Partially from suddenly having to spend so much time with a husband who was usually on location, partially from difficulties conceiving, but mostly thinking his star was beginning to wane, Faye realised she actually couldn’t stand her husband and they divorced in August 2003 after only 15 months together.
Surprisingly enough, he wasn’t devastated. Not on the surface anyway. Many suspected that the sensitive author would self-destruct. Perhaps that’s why John drew him into his world. In any case Nate seemed to cope with losing his family by building another, becoming a ‘favourite godparent’ to Helena. He also made some steps back into work, guest directing on several long-running series and scripting a celebrated made-for-tv thriller, Anonymity.Milla had meanwhile gone supernova. Nate worked on her feature Unarmed as a script consultant, accompanying her on location in Australia.
Well, that’s the official story.
Flashback a few months. The paparazzi are driving John mad, stalkers dominate the news… and someone tries to kidnap Helena. John’s scared. Helena and Milla, the two most important things in his world, are hot property and headed to Australia. He needs someone to look after them. Someone he can trust. Someone as devoted to them as he is. Someone with little else to live for, who’ll do anything to protect them… And what d’ya know, a suitable candidate springs to mind.
Why they were on the flight: Accompanying Kamilliah and Helena
Crash site: Tail-end (Site 3)
Itinerary: Ruger P9ODC Auto Pistol given to him by John which he dreads ever having to use, his hand-luggage (rucksack containing much battered copy of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s nest, water flask, hand torch and batteries)… other than that he’ll salvage anything and everything
Strengths: Intelligence, imagination and determination
Weakness: Commitment to securing Helena / Milla’s safety may well mean he neglects his own where risk is necessary. Physical strength doesn’t match up to his mental prowess. Chivallric beliefs may prove a problem in the face of amorality / ruthlessness (for example, everyone’s favourite child obsessed Canadian)
Sample post? You must be joking! I'm the admin, I don't have time for such things... and despite the crapness of my application I can accept myself!!
