Sayid had been working hard all day in the shade of the trees on the transceiver. He didn't seem to be getting all that far really but it was keeping him busy. He had nothing else to do except look out over the ocean for any sign of rescue, which he was pretty convinced by now, was not coming any time soon. He looked up, over the beach, moving his dark hair back from his eyes. No one was around, it had been so quiet for a few hours now. Maybe they were all at the caves or maybe something was going on.
He stood up, wiping his forehead with a piece of cloth and walking out onto the sand. The sun really was over powering. He guessed it was around mid day as the sun was high in the sky and had been up now around 6 or 7 hours. He walked over to the very edge of the shore, sitting on a rock that was lonely on the beach. He looked back, still no one on the beach. Oh, how he longed to be in the water, it looked so cool and refreshing but he had way too much to do. He still had to look over Rousseau's maps yet. Maybe ask Shannon if she could help him, he was starting to enjoy her company more and more each day. She wasn't the spoilt brat everyone else saw when she was around him, she was nice and always had a smile on her face.
He'd do that later though, right now, he just wanted to take a break and think. If he cleared his mind a little, it might make him better when he went back to work. A deep sigh left his lips as he ran his hand once again over his forehead, wiping away the sweat that the sun was giving him.

Kate was ambling across the sand, heading for the secluded cave she had spotted earlier. Instead of finding that, however, she stumbled across a man. This must be Sayid, she thought. Well, Kate needed someone to talk to, and he was the only one around. So, guess what she did?
Hello. I'm Kate, survivor of a plane crash that left me stranded on some bloody island. I see you are sitting in the sand fiddling with some little electronic device that will no doubt get us to safety if it works. No doubt it isnt working. Now, isn't that just great?
Sarcasm entered the last sentence, but before that she put on the false air hostess act. Kate wondered where the air hostesses were now. Dead? Or roaming the island? She didn't know. Her eyes scanned the horizon again. She was losing hope. But there was still an everlasting goblet in there somewhere.

Shannon Was bored, everyone else had things to get on with. Important things, but she had nothing. She wandered around for a while sighing a lot, no-one knows the real Shannon here, and they have yet to know the real her. While she was walking she saw Sayid and she shot him a look, as she flicked her hair, and continued to walk past him, hoping he would talk to her. She had yet to find anyone she could have a decent conversation with, except Sayid, he was on the same wave lengths as her, or maybe even better than her but she would never admit it to anyone. She felt a connection and that was all that mattered at the moment, being on the island was lonely so she needed a pleasurable chat, some light relief to forget her troubles and her past.

Sayid looked towards Kate as she introduced herself and smiled at her sarcasm. "Im sure it will work, once I've fiddled with it a little and worked out what isn't working!" He said with a smile, "Nice to meet you Kate, Im Sayid." He added. He looked about, still messing, absent mindedly with the transceiver. He saw Shannon wandering across the beach on her own looking pretty bored if he could say so himself.
He smiled at Kate again, getting himself up on the sand and looking about for Shannon's brother Boone before walking over to her. He stood next to her walking along with her, the transceiver still in his hands. "Hey." He said smiling, "Are you alright?" He asked putting his finger under her chin and lifting it gently so she was looking at him.

Shannon "Yeah I'm ok I guess." She blushed slightly kind of embarrassed by him touching her, but she looked at the black thing in his hands and said. "So what's that your working on?"

Sayid smiled, "Good." He looked down at the transceiver in his hands, swapping it from one hand to the other. He looked back up at Shannon and shrugged. "The transceiver, Im trying to get it working still so we can try to pick up a signal." He didn't really know what to say, the transceiver wasn't exactly the best topic of conversation in the world now was it? "How is your brother?" He asked, remembering how uptight he was before.

Shannon "He's em, the same as ever. I don't wanna talk about him. So you need any help?" she said as she tossed the sand around with her feet, and drew swirls with her toes.

Sayid smiled, they really didn't seem to get along did they? He shrugged, holding the transceiver in his left hand and tossing it up and down gently, careful not to break anything or let anything fall out although he could hear something rattling inside. He brought it up to his ear and shook it, he shrugged again. "You can help if you like, I don't know what you coild do though!" He smiled at her, she seemed a nice girl, but everyone seemed to have the same impression of her, the spoilt little dumb blonde who doesn't like to socialize but Sayid had always looked beneath the skin. He could see she was a nice person really, you just had to press the right buttons and let her be involved, and she was anything but dumb, she was actually really intelligent, as far as he could tell.

Shannon "Em, yeah so is there anything you need to get the transiever working, anything I could find or get for you?" She smilied, happy that she had someone to talk to and someone who was talking to her.

Sayid shrugged again. "To be honest, I don't really know what I need myself!" He said with a smile. "How about I put it away and we go for a walk or something?" He said moving towards his bag that he had left on the sand and putting the transceiver inside. He would much rather spend sometime with Shannon than work out what he had to do to fix the transceiver.

Shannon Smiled and blushed, he knew which buttons to press with her, and she admired that about him, she looked down at her feet again and said bashfully. "Um ok, will I need shoes?"

"It depends where you want to go! But I guess it would be safer!" He smiled at her, he didn't want her getting hurt that was for sure! He fixed the bag onto his shoulder and began to walk across the beach. "Where are your shoes?" He asked.

Shannon Pointed towards the tree near by and said. "Just there, I wanted to go bare foot for a while." She walked towards the tree and bent down to retrieve them, leaning against the tree she slipped her foot into one shoe then the other. "There, ready when you are!"

Sayid smiled and nodded as she told him about the shoes and waited for her whilst she got them on. He smiled when he came back and nodded yet again. "Okay, so where would you like to go?" He asked, deciding against taking his ruck sack and placing it gently on the floor at the foot of a tree.

Shannon Replied "Anywhere away from here" She cracked another smile at him, she definately felt wanted and safe with Sayid, she didn't feel like this with anyone, especially since the crash. The only other person she felt this safe with was her father, but his death made her put up barriers to keep men at a distance, all men except Sayid.
