Kate
Hey
Kate answered, without lifting or head or looking at Sawyer. She'd know that Southern drawl anywhere. She continued staing stubbornly at the sky, before sighing again before sitting up.
Those are bad for you
She said, reproachfully.
Gimme one. I need some stress relief
Kate added, running her hand tiredly through her windswept hair and laughing inwardly again. If Shannon had the materials... she'd probably give Kate the makeover of her life. But she needed it. She looked over her chipped fingernails disgustedly, vowing then and there not to ever look like this again. Soon as she could she'd go back into that sea and clean herself. But away from everyone. She knew a small bay quite a bit away. On the other side of the island. It would do, to prevent prying eyes from seeing her. Kate shuddered. That was the last thing she needed.

"Ah don't know, freckles" he grinned, taking a drag on his smoke. "Ah heard they're real bad for you.." He strolled over and knelt infront of her, holding the carton just out of her reach... "Besides. y' didn't say please."

Kate
With a suppressed sigh, Kate looked exasperatingly at Sawyer. He was so childish sometimes!
Please. You happy?
She said boredly, with the deprived sense of someone with not much patience left. She never had patience left... well she might have, if this whole fiasco had not robbed her of it. Now she had nothing, nothing to live for...

He held back for a moment, as if considering whether to accept her offer... or more likely, whether he could get away with winding her up some more... Something about her tone told him she didn't have the patience for that. Sawyer smiled and tossed her the carton.
"Didn't have you pegged f'a smoker..."

Kate
Kate ganced ruefully at Sawyer, shaking the box somewhat to get to the less dirty cigarettes and leaving the carton in the sand after retrieving a relatively clean one.
I wasn't
She told Sawyer, saying no more. She held out her hand for the lighter, with the air of someone who was tired, depressed, and determined. She would find her way out of this, she would.

Jack wandered around the beach, looking for something to keep him busy or somewhere to sit where he wouldn't be disturbed. He walked past Sawyer's tent, hearing voices inside. He listened outside a second realising it was Kate and Sawyer that were inside. He pulled back whatever Sawyer had used as a door and dcuked, walking inside the smokey space. He saw Sawyer sat, smoking and Kate with a cigarette in her mouth and frowned. He didn't think she smoked, but really, he had no idea, she could have been on 60 a day for all he knew but she just didn't have any on the island so she didn't smoke. He smiled at Kate and looked at Sawyer, nodding slightly. "Hey." He said, mainly to Kate. "I didn't know you smoked." He said, raising his brow and stepping further inside.

Kate smiled, standing up and running a hand through her hand again. Honestly... wasn't someone allowed to change around here? She dropped her cigarette and squished it into the sand with the heel of her shoe.
I don't. But sometimes if some big tragedy happens, people change. But I don't think I'll be one of them.
Kate tilted her head to the side, with a smile on her face. She batted her hand in front of her face. She had never liked cigarettes, but things needed to be tried. She had moods. An annoyed mood was usually the one she took risks in. Sometimes they were stupid risks. Really stupid.
Cigarettes are cancer sticks. I just wanted to see if I fancied the idea of getting sick and dying out here. It could be better than some things in store for us.

((when did we get into the tent? Last time I checked I was on the beach OUTSIDE my tent))
Sawyer glared at Kate in mock offence, still dragging on his own 'cancer stick', although it was getting less enjoyable by the minute. Jeez, first Jaz and now Freckles.. what the hell was wrong with people? Couldn't they just let a guy smoke in peace? He'd survived a plane crash, for crissakes, so something as trivial as a cigarette wasn't going to finish him off... besides, he'd given up giving a damn about what those sticks did to him... He didn't deserve to live, so why should he care if he died.
He contemplated making some dumbass remark back to Kate, decided against it. What she'd said was one of the few things that made sense about this place. And a far more attractive target had yet again presented himself. Sawyer stretched out, hands folded behind his head. "Well, if it ain't the good doctor... What can ah do you for?"

((Sorry I just assumed you were in the tent! Lol!))
Jack smiled as Kate put the cigarette out and smiled, he had never smoked himself. He jus didn't like it and being a doctor, he knew and had seen the damage it can do. He glared at Sawyer as he asked his question in that southern drawl of his. He shrugged, pursing his lips together and looking at the floor. "I just thought I'd stop by and see how your new house is coming along." He said looking back at Sawyer again. Sawyer seemed to have his whole island life planned out already! While everyone else was trying to fix the transceiver and get the hell off this island, Sawyer had built a tent. Jack found it quite funny really. But he couldn't complain, it really didn't look as if rescue was coming anytime soon and he had got his own natural shelter at the caves which did him fine. "Why?" He asked Sawyer.

((Ha, s'okay Jackie-boy, no problem. I relish the opportunity to show off my new tent))
"Hardly 5 star, doc, but it'll do me fine" Ah, disapproving doctor. So predictable... So much fun, for so little effort. Sawyer didn't even have to bother exercising his wit with this guy, since he seemed to annoy him just by existing. Well, whatever. Why the hell shouldn't Sawyer have built a tent? It wasn't like rescue was going to come... and he had to look out for number one. Because let's face it, no one else was going to.
Why? "Jus' wonderin'" Sawyer didn't respond to the anger so carefully yet pointlessly hidden in Jack's voice and demeanour except by becoming even more laid back, if such a thing were possible. He surveryed his empire of junk and smiled to himself again... if Jack wanted anything he'd have to come crawling to him, since he was the only one who'd had the sense to accumalate the debris, and that thought amused him. Jack, on his hands and knees... hell, that image was worth all the niccotine guilt.

Jack turned to Kate, ignoring the fact that Sawyer was infact still there. He looked at all the things Sawyer had managed to salvage. There were belongings that looked like they would come in useful with Sayid and the transceiver and a few other things such as alcohol and antibiotics.
He turned back to Sawyer, forgetting what he was about to say to Kate and pointed to a bundle of alcohol and electrical stuff in the corner. "Where did you get these from?" He asked, remembering that he had been looking for the alcohol cart before, looks like Sawyer beat him to it!

Sawyer grinned - well, smirked - and stretched out further, one great big beacon of smugness. As he'd predicted. And to top it all Freckles would have to watch the island hero grovel to the self-styled Villain of the Piece. Could this day get any better? "Trade secret, doc... Why?"

Kate looked from one to the other, slightly amused. She doubted Sawyer had even seen a 5 star hotel. Still, she kept her mouth shut and listened. Those could be very useful. No doubt Sawyer was leading Jack on. Don't go for the bait! She thought. She didn't want Sawyer to get the better of Jack again. Ooh, the last time she had got so damn close to slapping Sawyer.
Sawyer, I think its bloody obvious what we need them for. If you weren't so busy making your...
Kate glanced skeptically to the tent.
Home sweet home, you would realise who could be lying injured somewhere on the beach. Or is that too much for your brain to comprehend?
Kate finished dryly, getting to the annoyed stage. Sawyer was deliberately stalling, wasting most people's time. He could be so frustrating, like a child.
If you dont mind, gentlemen, I've got to be somewhere else.
She said, with an apologetic glance at Jack, heading to the cave sighted earlier where she could relax.

Jack nodded at Kate as she walked out, starting to follow her. He was hardly going to stay here alone with Sawyer was he? He turned back to Sawyer before he left and glanced at the medicines and alcohols. "Sawyer, Im going to need those, I'll come back and ask later, hopefully then you won't be feeling so sarcastic." He glared at him and then made his way out after Kate.
