Dangling by a thread

Jaz let out a groan, opening her eyes. Her head was throbbing and her leg was stinging painfully. She sat up, glancing around. She was surrounded by trees. Trees, trees and more trees. "Great" she muttered angrily.

Looking down at her left leg, she noticed a small piece of glass cut deep into it. She turned her head to read the table on it. It was a piece from the bottle of wine the person next to her head been drinking. She groaned. Stupid Wine drinker she thought angrily.

Jaz let out a moan, raising one hand to her head. She drew it back quickly, feeling blood. She lay back down. She couldn't get up, her leg was to sore. Great. I'm stuck she thought. She could only see tall trees and blue sky. Hearing a rustling she paused, not breathing. This could be bad?!

[Sawyer]

" 'Cause all I ever had... these songs of freedom" Sawyer wandered through the jungle. It was his second day on the island, and he was planning on spending it pretty much exactly as he had the first one - salvaging whatever and wherever he could. So here he was, strolling into the so-called 'Haunted' jungle, picking up whatever took his fancy, sometimes singing and sometimes whistling to himself.

As he came closer to the tail end wreckage, however, he stopped. Someone.. or something, had just drawn breath. Or was he just imagining it?

Jaz could see trough the trees a figure, but her vision was still blurry. Blinking several times, the image became clearer, but she couldn't make anything out of the figure. She let her breath out again, closing her eyes. People survived that was good, right? She would have said something but her throat was dry.

She took the figure was a guy, from the singing. She couldn't help but smile. Either he was a happy go lucky or it's all about me kinda guy. She had a toss up in her head, while waiting to see if the man would come any closer, or wheather he would leave, which she was praying he wouldn't

Sawyer glanced round... If it was this so-called Beast, then it would have attacked by now, right? And if it was a boar, then he'd have been flat on his back looking up at his guts... Which meant it had to be another survivor... "Hello?" he shouted, hoping he wasn't tempting fate... No response.

"Son of a bitch, Sawyer" he mumbled to himself, laughing nervously. "You imaginin' things now?"

"What?" Jaz said finally getting her voice back. She pushed herself up into a sitting position, still grinning. Though both her head and leg were causeing her great pain, this was entertaining.

She turned her body, looking around. She spotted a small puddle of blood from her head, and sighed. Great she thought. She turned back and looked at her leg. No blood. The glass is still in there, it'll stop the bleeding she told herself, hoping some idiot wouldn't simply pull it out, even she knew better than that!

[Sawyer]

Sawyer started at the sound "Guess not.." he mumbled to himself, unsure whether this was a good thing.

He glanced over to where he thought the voice had come from, then back towards the beach. He wasn't the hero, he knew that... Running to get Jack wasn't the greatest idea either. Sawyer wouldn't give him the satisfaction of yet another 'Good Guy' moment. And if it did turn out to be nothing he'd look like an idiot. Best to go investigate himself, so he was the only one who'd know whether he was heroic or simply insane. One final glance back... and, sighing, he headed towards the voice, deeper into the trees.

It didn't take him long to find the blonde girl sat amongst the wreckage. "Hey" - he tried his least smug smile - "Ah'm Sawyer. The plane crashed... How are you?" From anyone else it would have sounded iditoic, but he had a way of putting things which, when accompanied with his distinctive southern drawl, made flippancy almost sensible.

Jaz snorted "I'm Jaz. I'm I guess ok, or not depending on how you look at it. How are you Sawyer?" she asked smirking slightly. He was a Its all about me guy. She could tell, just by looking at him. She grinned and shook her head, leaning back on her hands looking at him.

"Wanna help me up?" she asked, nodding to the glass in her leg. Was she the only one from the tail end of the plane? She glanced around spotting a lifeless body in the wreckage. Shivering she turned back to Sawyer, cocking her head to one side, waiting for an answer.

Sawyer stood for a moment, hands on hips, sizing up this chick. Or trying to. Her English accent made a smile play upon his lip... it sounded so prim and proper amongst the chaos. But other than that she was an open book.. and that intrigued him.

"Sure.." He offered her a hand.

[Jaz]

"Thanks" Jaz said grabbing his hand. She, with much effort, pulled herself up, leaning on her right leg. "So um where the hell are we?" she asked, raising an eyebrow, as she bent down, to grab the backpack that was a few feet away from her.

She swung the bag over her back and glanced around, running a hand through her mattered hair. This was an interesting situation to be in. She looked back at Sawyer, waiting for an answer.

[Sawyer]

"Right now? In the jungle.. There's a beach over there." He gestured vaguelly, glancing her up and down, his gaze hovering for more than a moment on the backpack, since he couldn't help but wonder what was in there. "Other'an that, no idea, 'sicklesticks"

((ha! Inspiration strikes!))

"Sicklesticks?" jaz said raising an eyebrow. He was starting to scare her. "Ok then. So we may as well go to the beach, since thats were you came from right?" she asked watching him. Sicklestisck? What was that. If that was his idea of a nickname, she was so going to get him abck for that.

[Sawyer]

"In the most immediate sense of the word..." He grinned again, unable to resist the prospect of getting to yet another survivor. "Though ah'd shoot mahself if this was mah actual home... Ah take it you're from Merrie Ol' England?"

He started towards the beach, assuming she'd follow. A second later the thought struck him that maybe he should have helped.. what with her being injured, and probably shellshocked, and all that... But it was too late now, and he didn't want her thinking he was some Knight In Shining Armour...

"Right Cowboy" she asnwered, that was his temporary nickname till she got a good one. "Yip, how could you tell" she said sarcasticlly. She wouldn't mind living here, if it wasn't for the whole thing that they crashed here in a plane and all.

Jaz followed him, her face set. Her leg hurt as she walked along, but it didn't really show. Her face was blank, maybe it was what happened when you were a model, you learnt to controll you face.

Cowboy? Looked like she could give as good as she got... Sawyer grinned to himself. Okay, so it wasn't the most original nickname, but given the circumstances he'd have to forgive her that.

He knew he hadn't really meant that, about shooting himself. Hell, he kind of liked this place already. But it didn't do too well to broadcast how at home you were in the wild, not with Jack running his ordered little pseudo-society on the beach.

From the rythym of her footfalls, he could tell she was limping, or at least struggling. It was subtle, the way that she put ever so slightly more weight on her good leg, and stepped for just a moment longer on her bad one. Ignoring her question about the 'Englishness' (well, it was probably rhetorical anyway) and without looking back, he continued "You sure you're all right, Missy-J?"

Jaz smirked "Depends on what you mean by all right, but I'll be fine" she replyed Suddenly it hit her. Sawyer Sauce. She grinned to herself. Sawyer Sauce. Brilliant. By this time, she had caught up with him, and her face was blank.

As they walked, Jaz cracked her knuckles with a sort of plesant crack. She closed her eyes for a moment, breathing deeply. She was stuck on an island, that was a thrill. "How long have you been here?" she asked, lookiing up at him, brushing her hair out of her face
