Sawyer was bored... and alone.
Wandering along the beach, he caught sight of that guy from business class.. the one with the blanket. He hadn't caught his name.. Abdul would do for now. He was messing with some electrical junk. Well, Sawyer was no racist, but something just didn't sit right... The plane had crashed. Maybe he was just spoiling for a fight, looking for an easy target, but the pieces just started slotting into place.

Sayid sat on the sand, his concentration on the transceiver that he was holding in his hands. He'd been working on it for some time now but it was almost finished, well he thought so anyway. He looked up, sighing deeply and leaning back against the tree that was behind him. He saw another guy across the beach, looking at him weird. What was his problem? He'd just ignore it, he wasn't here to fight or get into any trouble. He just hoped they would be off the island soon.
He looked back down at the transceiver again, pushing a small piece of metal down, and then placing bnother on top to secure it. He shouldn't have found it hard really, he'd spent his time doing this sort of stuff in the Iraqi Republican guard, but the strain of the fact that they were stranded on a desert island and the fact that the plane he had been on had just crashed just made it harder for him to concentrate and to keep his mind on his work. He looked up again, and saw the guy still watching him, but again he ignored it...

What the hell was ol' Abdul up to over there? Okay, so what Sawyer knew about electricals was, at best, minimal.. he could have been making a microwave or a torch and he wouldn't have been any the wiser. But why take that chance? He hadn't survived a plane crash only to be blown up by Captain Falafel.
Sawyer was no hero. He wasn't interested in stopping this guy for any reason other than to save his own ass.. and he had no pretentions otherwise. Infact, he positively relished the lack of nobility, since without the burden of having to be 'the good guy' he could give this jerk the pounding he no doubt deserved... Ok, maybe there was doubt. And, while Sawyer wasn't fully ready to give him the complete benefit thereof, maybe he should do some talking before they got to the kicking.
"Hey." He took a couple of steps towards the guy, nodding towards the bom.... um, thing. "What'ch up to?"

Sayid looked up as the man walked towards him but looked back down again as he approached and carried on messing with the small metal bits inside. He looked up again as the guy stopped in front of him and spoke. "Im trying to fix the transceiver that Kate, Jack and Charlie found with the pilot." He replied focussing on the transceiver again. He shook it gently and held it up to his ear. There was still a rattling noise from inside which meant something was loose in there. He carried on poking around, trying to get what ever it was out. "Is there something you want?" He asked, holding the transceiver in his hand and looking up at Sawyer, slightly restless.

Transceiver, huh? That was a good one.. because who the hell knew what a transceiver looked like?... Freckles and the VH1 Reject, it seemed, but hell, that wasn't the point. Might just have been a lucky guess...
"Well, y'see..." Sawyer crossed his arms over his chest and looked at this guy sidelong.. there was something shady about him, no doubt in his mind on that account.. Good job he'd come to investigate, really. "Ah was wonderin'.. why d'you think the plane crashed?" There. It wasn't an accusation, no one could say he'd started anything.. It all hinged on how the guy reacted.

Sayid looked up at the guy again and put the transceiver on the sand next to him. He got to his feet, standing infront of him. He didn't know where this guy was going but t seemed he was digging at something that Sayid didn't like the sound of. "I have no idea." He said shrugging and shaking his head slightly. That was the truth. He had no idea why the plane crashed but to be honest, he was sure it was going to be the question on everyone's minds right now.
"Why are you asking me? I think everyone wants to know the answer but why should I know?"

So, Abdul? That hit a nerve, did it? I wonder why...Sawyer felt like squaring off, but that would be too easy... Besides, everyone hated him already and would probably side with Satan himself if Sawyer had started a fight with him... Better to just keep digging away, pushing until the other guy struck out.. then he'd have him.
" 'Just wonderin', s'all..." Sawyer smiled, darkly, and turned as if to go. "Hey, but ah'm sure you had nothin' to do with it.. don't let the question get to you. People might start suspecting stuff..."

Sayid looked at Sawyer his eyes beginning to narrow. He couldn't stand redneck jerks like him. They thought they could say and do as they liked, they had the same opinions of everyone and they were just extremely arrogant. He smiled sarcastically and nodded. "Yes, you're right, I had nothing to do with it, and why would people suspect me? It seems to me that only you have suspicions. But what else should I expect from a redneck?" He said bending down to pick up the transceiver and nodding at Sawyer before walking off towards the other end of the beach where maybe he'd get some peace and have a better chance of fixing the damn thing.

If Sawyer had had time to think, the phrase 'red rag to a bull' might have sprung to mind.. as it was he didn't really think that much about anything other than decking Sayid. Which he did.
Something was seriously rotten in the state of Mystery-Island-ville if a white guy couldn't raise a reasonable question for fear of being labelled racist, while people like Sayid could be as blatantly prejudiced as they liked without worrying about repercussions... Okay, so maybe that was a bit rich, making this out to be some moral crusade, but seriously, Sawyer was more than a bit touchy about the whole 'redneck jerk' thing...

Sayid turned swiftly as he felt Sawyer grab him, he looked at him, frowning but ducked quickly as he took a swing. He ran and tackled him to the floor, pushing him into the sand and hitting him in the stomach, but not hard, he didn't want to hurt him straight away did he?
((Sorry, crappy post, but Im not really sure what else to put cos its sort of god moding :/))

Shannon Is just walking along the beach when she hears groans coming from just inside the tree line, she walks towards the noises and see's Sayid on top of Sawyer laying into him. She decides that this would pass some time and she leans against a tree and watches from a safe distance.

Right. Now Sawyer was really mad. This guy was hitting like a ponce.. for the moment, but still... Sawyer flipped over, using his bulk to force the svelte Iraqi over, reversing the balance of power, and repaid the favour with no concerns about 'starting off easy' or 'saving something for later'. He wanted to teach this bastard a lesson.

Sayid struggled underneath Sawyer as he flipped the control, pushing with all his strength to try and get him off. He swung his head up and headbutted Sawyer, getting him right in the nose. He quickly peered round, noticing the crowd the two had attracted and noticing Shannon stood by a tree. His attention flew back to Sawyer though as he managed to push him onto the ground next to him, and started punching him again, harder this time...

Shannon I wonder if I should go get some help? She thought to herself, while she watched the two fight, she slumped to the floor with her back up against the tree, intregued to see how far this fight would go.

Sayid's punches landed, bringing Sawyer (still reeling from the headbutt) back to his senses. He could feel something hot running down his face, the salty tang on his parched lips suggested it was blood. Ouch... Jesus.. This guy definitely punched more than his weight. Nasty lil' Savage, aint'cha?
But Sawyer could take it.. he'd taken beatings before. True, never after surviving a plane crash, but whatever. He'd be damned if he was going to let this bloody kebab vendor kick his ass. That in mind, he blocked Sayid's last punch and used the block to force him back over into the sand.
