Rose sat staring out into the ocean. Her mind on her husband, Bernard. They had been theough difficulties in the past and she knew that they were going to get through this one. She didn't know how, but she could feel him. He was alive, he just needed to get back to her. And he would, this was the strongest feeling she had ever felt. The hope bubbling through her veins convinced her that he would come back soon. So she just continued to sit there staring at the calm water, her mind reflecting the peaceful nature that was all around her.
For the first time since the crash, she smiled.

The sun dipped down towards the horizen and she felt cold. It spread through her body and she couldn't surpress the shiver that shook her. The wind picked up tempo and she forced herself to get away from her lonely spot and get warmth. She travelled to the edge of the forest and leant against one of the trees, it warmed her...some. She put her head against the tree and thought back on past times. Her family, her wedding her...husband. No, she thought,it hurts too much now to think about him. He isn't here and I need him. But he'll be back, i know it With these thoughts she picked a spot out in the ocean and concentrated on the calm movement, the natural features that made it want it was. This calmed her and she once again thought of loved ones with no pain in her heart.

Kate walked slowly down the beach, stopping as she saw someone there. A woman. She looked very sad, but there was an expression of clear understanding on her face. Kate walked over to stand beside her. She needed some company, everyone else were just all great buddies. Besides, the rare occasions she got a private conversation it was interuppted by some person who didn't have anything better to do.
Hello
Kate said softly.
I'm Kate

Rose looked up to see a glorious sight. A beautiful girl stood in the path of the sun and the surrounding light made her look like an angel.
hello
She said
i'm rose
She gave Kate a smile that reached her eyes. She now had someone to talk to, her thoughts could keep her calm no longer, she needed this someone to help bring her back into some normalicy.

Kate smiled, sitting down beside the woman. She needed some company. Lying in the sand for hours wasn't the best way to spend your time. But she had had a little bath, to get herself clean. There had been a rustle of trees on the other side, and Kate hoped no one had been watching.
Everyone has a tragedy. Talking helps. Can I ask you if anything is wrong?
Of course talking helped. Not that Kate was going to risk it by blabbing about her secret. Now, wouldn't that be smart?

Rose looked at the kind girl. Smiling at her she replied to the question.
at the moment things are a bit off, but in time everything will be okay
She knew in her heart she didn't have a tradegy, yes her husband was missing but he would be back. She closed her eyes and could almost feel him talking to her, reassuring her that things would be okay. Turing to look at Kate again she asked
what about you? How are you doing with everything that has happened?"

Kate looked to the woman. She seemed to be missing something. Family, perhaps? Kate did not know.
I'm coping. I haven't died yet, so thats a good thing
Kate gave a little laugh, to hide the lie. She was going insane on this island. Sometimes. But usually she was glad because she had something to do. Without someone saying: "Hey, you're the escaped lunatic" and phoning the police as fast as their chubby fingers could.

Rose laughed at Kate's comment. She knew Kate was feeling a little downcast so and caught in past thoughts so she tried to get her mind off them by talking to her.
So what's the food situation on this island?
Hopefully this could start getting Kate more animated and more like the girl she saw when she first met her.

Kate smiled again, with a slight laugh.
Not great, and especially as we'll be stuck out here for a while...
She screwed up her face in mock disgust.
Only fruit, and I dont fancy I'll go after insects

Rose wrinked her nose at the thought of trying to eat such a thing.
I've seen those reality tv shows, I wouldn't like to eat anything like that. Fruits nice though.
Yes, she thought, that would be nice. She was starting to feel the hunger in her stomach, the last hing she had eaten was one of those dreadful meals on the plane. She would do anything for some decent food right now.

Kate shrugged. She had started having hunger pangs a few hours ago, but thought nothing of it. After all, they were stranded, were they not? And Kate had only picked at the gross plane food. Yeuch!
I suppose so. Hey, are you hungry?
She asked Rose, turning to her slowly.

Rose nodded, looking glum
"Who wouldn't be. That plane food was dreadful. I doubt anyone voluntarily eats that."
She sighed and gathered her knees up to her chest. Rose now regretted not having something to substancial on the plane, it may have been disgusting but a least it was food. Now she might starve to death. She missed all the home comforts that she usually had and it made her yearn for Bernard even more.

Kate saw the look in Rose's eyes and was instantly reminded of the feeling she had suffered. Except maybe the person Rose missed wasn't dead at all, thats why it wasn't as deep as looks glimpsed before. Kate shuddered and turned back into happy. Rubbing her stomach with her hand like the famous Wiggles would, she began chanting.
Fruit salad, yummy yummy. Fruit salad, yummy yummy. Fruit salad, yummy yummy. Yummy yummy yummy yummy fruit salad!

Rose looked over at Kate and shifted slightly away from her. To tell the truth Kate was starting to scare her a bit. She was obviously a little, umm what's the word...insane. But Rose thought that it couldn't be her fault so just smiled at Kate and once again turned to her watching. The calm waves lulling her into a false sense of peace.
Suddenly a roaring sound broke into her thoughts. It came from the dense forest and sounded deadful. Rose stood up quickly and walked a few paces back towards the water. It came again, making Rose feel more scared than she had ever been in her life.

Kate was a bit annoyed with Rose. She had shifted away from Kate as if she was insane. Fore goodness sake, Kate thought, I'm just trying to raise spirits a bit. She was about to open her mouth and tell Rose so when a huge roaring noise came from the trees behind her. She turned around, frightened by this new eruption of sound. Kate was extremely shocked, but came to her senses and ran closer to the lapping waves, casting questioning glances in Rose's direction.
